Press Release: Nearly There Wishing he were still in Africa, Charlie Rauseo, rider #99, is back at home now in San Francisco nursing what the UCSF doctors described as the "worst shoulder AC separation" they had ever seen. Charlie fell in a field of rocks at about KM 70 of Stage 7. He continued for another 300 KM before succumbing to darkness and pain. Charlie’s departure seems to be the only really bad news for the Team, however. Mike Krynock, #98, continues to give solid performances despite a broken wrist sustained on Stage 3. Team assistance crew members Niles Follin, Sid Milton and Robb McElroy have tirelessly supported the tiny team from their Ford F-350 truck. Apparently, the crew has been able to keep the bikes and truck mostly intact. The bikes, prepared on a budget, are working well, proving the team’s unorthodox design. After the surprisingly fast Moroccan stages, the Team’s custom KTM 525 Rally bikes have come into their element. Jonah Street, #42, has backed up his earlier impressive performances with stage finishes of 3rd and 5th in Stages 11 and 12, respectively. In his first rally and first ever attempt at racing navigation, Jonah is showing that he has the makings of a world-class rally racer. After the sad passing of Australian KTM rider Andy Caldecott, the Team and all its supporters are focused now on a safe arrival in Dakar. There are only a few stages left. Daily television coverage is on OLN TV, and updates and photos from the team, as well as excellent timely rally news, is at www.onewheeldrive.net. |
